18th week after Pentecost
A message from The Rev. Canon Charles Bull
GUEST PREACHER
I would be pleased to come and preach on an environmental theme some Sunday this fall at any church within an hour's drive of Halifax. I present an interactive Good News message, in order to give hope and motivation to those who are concerned about the state of the world but may be feeling a little hopeless and helpless. I would discuss the sermon with the Rector/Priest-in-Charge ahead of time, to tailor it to the congregation with regard to their attitudes and level of engagement with environmental issues. Please email me at [email protected] or call 902 210 9371.
Let's get the conversation going!

The U.N. NatureCOP meeting is happening in Colombia and is a chance for our world to stop biodiversity collapse. This advocacy option is a way to be there and be heard without travelling. Send a message to world leaders saying this opportunity matters and our direction needs to be towards united protection for life on our planet. Write your own message or discover examples from Nature Canada. These messages of hope and solidarity will be displayed at the crucial moments during the negotiations from October 21st to November 1st.
The Pantanal is the world’s largest tropical wetland. This biome predominantly lies in Brazil but also extends to Bolivia and Paraguay. It is home to over 4,700 species, many of which are endangered. A massive industrial waterway is threatening the heart of this incredible area. If this project happens, it could cause a shrinkage, increase the risk of catastrophic wildfires, drastically change the natural flood cycles that sustain the rich biodiversity, and disrupt the ecosystem beyond repair. Ports are already being licensed and contracts signed to open the way for dredging. Indigenous and local communities oppose the project. This wetland plays a critical role as a carbon sink in the fight against climate change, and ironically this waterway project may destroy the very landscape that makes river navigation possible. Brazil will be hosting next year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference. Sign your name to tell them to lead by example.
Cargill is the largest privately owned company in the United States and the largest agribusiness company in the world. They have a history of deforestation and human rights abuses within their supply chain, as well as a legacy of making commitments and then breaking them. At the end of 2023, Cargill made a bold commitment to end their destruction of nature in South America by 2025. If they deliver on their promise, it will be a huge and long-awaited step forward for the planet and the Indigenous communities who depend on these ecosystems. This petition is about people coming together to push Cargill towards keeping their promise.
This is a message to the Canadian government about holding fossil fuel companies accountable and not letting the drive for corporate profit put us all at risk. The imbalance is clear between paychecks souring for oil and gas CEOs and working people across the country struggling while communities are affected by supercharged heatwaves, wildfires, and flooding fuelled by the climate crisis created by Big Oil. Climate disasters take lives, harm communities, and cost us billions each year. It’s time polluters pay up. This petition is about taxing Big Oil’s excess profits to fund relief and support for climate-impacted communities, and to get to the root cause of this crisis by accelerating the transition to renewable energy. The UK and the European Union already have this common-sense policy implemented, and Canada can follow suit.
Private jets emit massive amounts of carbon and are only available to the ultra-wealthy, who are responsible for half of the world's aviation emissions. This small percentage of people are contributing greatly to the climate crisis, while the rest of us bear the consequences. This petition is for the UK, the country in Europe where the most private jets took off from in 2022. Canadians can sign this petition to demand the UK government ban private jets immediately.
Gracious God, your amazing love extends through time and space, to all parts of your creation, which you created and called good. Your covenant with the human family is remembered in every rainbow in the sky, symbolizing your promise of love and blessing to every living creature, and to all successive generations. In Jesus, you invite us to enter into a new covenant, in communion with all who seek to be faithful to you and to do justice. As people of faith, we are called into covenant. Your covenant of faithfulness and love extends to the whole creation. Today we pray for the healing of our planet that present and future generations may enjoy the fruits of creation, and continue to glorify and praise you. Carlos J.
